WHO IS SHE

Nele Gilis (born 20 February 1996 in Mol) is a Belgian professional squash player. In May 2022, she reached the 11th place in the world on the international circuit, her best ranking1. She is Belgian champion several times between 2013 and 2020 succeeding Kim Hannes, 12 times titleholder. She is European champion in 2019.

In May 2019, she was the first Belgian player to reach the quarter-finals of the British Open after a victory over her sister in the knockout stages4. Thanks to this performance, she became the first Belgian player to enter the top 20 with a 19th place in June 2019. In September 2019, she became the first Belgian player at the European Championships5.

In October 2020, she beat a top 10 player for the first time in Amanda Sobhy at the Egypt Open Platinum Tournament6,7.
